How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (Roman 10:14).
Is there a need for the preacher? Are preachers as crucial as they are said to be? Let us examine their importance. First, what is a preacher? A preacher delivers a sermon publicly. He gives a message from God to worshippers of a church audience. A preacher conducts worship services and is responsible for expounding scriptures of the Bible to the understanding of others. In addition, the preacher provides spiritual leadership to a church congregation. My declaration concerning the preacher is that God (not man) authorizes authentic preachers to stand in the stead of God, making known His deeds to everyone who has an ear to hear.
It is understood that the preachers provide various spiritual duties, such as pastoral leadership, the performance of weddings, funerals, baptisms, and the implementation of counseling services, to name a few. They are responsible for speaking on behalf of God. They do not preach messages presented by other ministers but seek God for the appropriate messages for the assembly at hand. Genuine preachers acknowledge and confirm that individuals need to become Christian, one who professes and demonstrates belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Preachers ensure that people receive spiritual inspiration.
Preachers must have wisdom and knowledge of the Scriptures for the accurate interpretation of the Word of God because they prepare humanity for eternity, which is eternal life after death. Preachers utilize God’s Word, the Bible, to point out Scriptures vital for men and women to make a Heavenly spiritual transition.
God has His criteria for determining who will instruct His people. Not every preacher is endowed with divine awareness to administer Spiritual enlightenment. Such enlightenment is executed through ministers who are born again, God-appointed, and Spirit-filled. They are summoned and anointed to expound the absolute truth about God’s expectations of humanity. Although large numbers are called to ministry, all are not chosen (Matthew 22:14). Not all ministers are willing to fulfill the obligations that are a part of Godly ministry. Some have a desire to minister but do not possess the essential qualifications.
Authentic preachers are heralds of the Gospel of God. In other words, they are God’s mouthpiece, speaking on behalf of God. Requirements do not necessitate natural degrees. All preachers are not naturally educated. God-ordained ministers are spiritually well-informed by God, equipped with intelligence and expertise to preach the Gospel. Preaching is not an easy task. It can be intense, but it is always rewarding. The Word of God declares that we can do all things through Christ which strengthens us. (Philippians 4:13). Genuine preachers are those who stand firm and proclaim the Gospel of God.
Preachers present undiluted messages whether men like it or not. Jesus Christ, who was the greatest preacher to walk on earth, preached the Kingdom of God with all power and authority and left an example for others to follow. Preachers deserve to be graciously respected as they take a stand to expound the Word of God.
In answer to the question asked at the beginning, “Do we need a preacher?” the answer is unquestionable. Yes, we need the preacher. Everyone will need a preacher at some point in life, even if it is nothing more than to receive prayer. If God endows ministers with the tenacity to launch out into the vineyard to convert souls, there is a great need for them. One does not have to look far to find people doing more wrong things than doing what is right. Therefore, the need is critical for real preachers. According to the Word of God, “The harvest is ripe, but the laborers are few” (Matthew 9:37). Laborers certainly include preachers because they are proclaimers of the Gospel, speaking the Word of God into the ears of the listeners.
Prayer is key: Dear Lord, I thank You for granting me the knowledge to understand the need for the preacher. I ask that you help me to follow the path of righteousness as I follow true leadership. Please help me to be a faithful follower of the preacher as he follows Christ. In Jesus Name, I pray, Amen.
